A New Day in University Heights

University Heights is ready for a new day—one where we face our challenges with honesty, transparency, and real solutions. Our sewer systems are aging. Our roads need more than short-term patchwork. And our residents deserve leadership that understands what true fiscal responsibility looks like.

Infrastructure:
Our sewer systems were built for a different era. Today, they’re under pressure from both age and heavier demands. A new day means committing to a long-term plan—repairing, replacing, and modernizing our systems with the latest technology and environmental safeguards.

Roads:
Our streets are the backbone of daily life. Instead of waiting for problems to pile up, we’ll create a clear, transparent schedule for road repair and maintenance. This ensures consistency, avoids emergency over-spending, and gives residents confidence in the city’s planning.

Fiscal Responsibility:
Fiscal responsibility isn’t just about trimming budgets. It’s about spending smart. It means protecting taxpayer dollars, cutting waste, and being accountable. It also means having the courage to invest where it matters—because doing nothing costs more in the long run.

The Plan to Pay for It:

  • Grants and Federal/State Partnerships: We will aggressively pursue federal and state infrastructure grants—money that other cities are already taking advantage of. These funds exist to help municipalities modernize sewer systems and repair roads, and we should be leading the way in securing them.
  • Phased Investment: Instead of pushing costs onto residents all at once, we’ll break projects into manageable phases with clear timelines, ensuring stable budgets year after year.
  • Smart Bonding and Low-Interest Financing: Where larger investments are unavoidable, we’ll use low-interest municipal bonds strategically, only when absolutely necessary, and with complete transparency about repayment plans.
  • Cutting Waste & Redirecting Savings: By streamlining city operations and eliminating unnecessary spending, we can redirect funds toward infrastructure projects without increasing the tax burden.
  • Regional Collaboration: Partnering with neighboring cities and county resources can lower costs through shared services, bulk purchasing, and coordinated projects.

This is what a New Day in University Heights looks like: A city where our infrastructure works, our roads are safe and reliable, and our financial decisions are made with the community’s future in mind. With smart planning and honest leadership, we can build a stronger, more resilient city—without breaking the bank.
